I’m very pleased to see that Managing Data for Patron Privacy is out, and I recommend its purchase in the strongest terms to libraries of all types, library consortia, and systems librarians. Of course I’ve asked the iSchool Library to buy it. I helped review a chapter, and I consider both authors to be colleagues and friends.
This is not a book of empty rhetoric, though it certainly does not ignore theory and ethics. This book is the first I know of to offer concrete, rubber-meets-road policy and systems guidance for protecting privacy across a broad range of library systems and services. That’s been a hole in library-privacy guidance for entirely too long a time, so I’m so, so glad to see this published.
Go ye and purchase. I want this book to be a multiple-editions stayer.
