This talk was given at a distance for the 2008 inauguration of the University of Prince Edward Island’s institutional repository “Island Scholar,” based on an in-house–developed software mashup that would come to be named Islandora.
The idea, of course, stemmed from a cheap bait-and-switch: the immortal Alice for Prince Edward Island’s most famous literary export, Anne of Green Gables. To this day I’m not sure whether I ran the metaphor into the ground or made it work, but I’m still fond of this, and it’s absolutely the best introduction to open access I’ve ever done.
